Whitby is a popular seaside town in North Yorkshire, known for its picturesque harbour, stunning cliff-top views and historic abbey ruins.
The town has a rich history, with evidence of human habitation dating back to the Bronze Age. Whitby was an important port during the Middle Ages, and was a major centre for the fishing industry. The town is also associated with the explorer Captain James Cook, who served his apprenticeship here. Today, Whitby is a beautiful and historic town with something to offer everyone. Whether you are interested in history, culture or simply want to enjoy the stunning scenery, Whitby is the perfect place to visit.

We start with a local departure for our journey north to Whitby. Accommodation has been reserved for 3 or 4 nights (see below dates) on a half board basis at The Royal Hotel situated opposite the famous Whalebone Arch in the West Cliff area of Whitby and with breath-taking views of Whitby Abbey. All rooms are ensuite with tea/coffee making facilities. Features include a restaurant and bar with ocean views.
Day 2 – At leisure in Whitby. This ancient and beautiful seaport with a history going back as far as the founding of its famous abbey in 657 AD. The town today features a harbour sheltering a wide range of fishing and private vessels. There are many interesting shops, renowned sea food restaurants and of course - the famous fish and chips. You can climb the 199 steps to Whitby Abbey to explore the ruins and enjoy the views.
Day 3 – Included excursion to the North Yorkshire Moors. We visit one of the area’s prettiest villages – Thornton Le Dale – with its thatched cottages and village green. Afterwards we take in the market town of Pickering with its restaurants, cafes and bars. Finally we visit the picture perfect Yorkshire market town – Helmsley.
Day 4/5 we spend some time in Whitby before commencing our return journey home, arriving back later on.
