We start with a local departure for our journey via the cross Channel ferry or Eurotunnel to the continent. We then continue to the 3* Ibis Styles Lille Marcq En Baroeul hotel where 2 nights accommodation has been reserved on a bed and breakfast basis.
On day 2 we take you to the centre of Lille. The city has the biggest flea market in Europe and amongst the many boutiques and shops you will find Europe’s largest book shop – the Furet du Nord. The central square is named after General de Gaulle who was born here. Head for the Hotel de Bille with its belfry at 104 metres is the tallest in Europe. The Palace of Fine Arts has the richest collection of any museum in France after the Louvre. The nightlife here buzzes. As well the Christmas market in Lille transforms the heart of the city into a festive spectacle with numerous stalls at Place Rihour offering unique gifts and local specialities, mulled wine and the sound of Christmas music. On day 3, after breakfast, we take you to Bruges – the ‘Venice of the North’. Enjoy the fascinating museums, explore the beautiful churches or palaces, cruise quietly along the picturesque canals, (cruises extra). As well during your visit the Bruges Christmas market will be on in Market Square the heart of the historic centre with festively decorated wooden stalls with gift items, sparkling Christmas trees against the backdrop of the Belfry. A few minutes away from Market, you’ll find another smaller Christmas market – Simon Stevin Square where the linden trees are decorated with twinkling fairly lights and a perfect place to stop and warm yourself with some mulled wine. Return home later on.
