Day 1 – depart from your local area and travel to Newquay where accommodation has ben reserved for 3 nights on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis at the Sandy Lodge Hotel, Newquay
Day 2 – journey across the Cornish countryside to the spectacular beaches, hidden coves and windswept headlands that provide the background to Captain Poldark and his tribulations.
You will visit Perranporth, former home and inspiration to Winston Graham, take in the picturesque village of St Agnes that doubles as ‘Nampara Valley’, the Poldark family estate and travel to National Trust owned Botallack to view the iconic mines. The short film played in the National Trust building features iconic clips and locations as soon in ‘Poldark’ the TV series and really brings everything to life.
Enjoy a visit to the fascinating ‘Poldark Mine’ on the Lizard Peninsula, where the film locations of Church Cove and Gunwalloe beach are found. This UNESCO site houses an open-air museum, tin mine and wonderful gardens. A tour of the mine is included.
Our last call of the day will be at Charlestown, the Grade II listed fishing village that ‘played the role’ of Georgian Truro for TV audiences.
Day 3 – our scenic journey takes you to Bodmin Moor, where many of the series’ horseback shots were filmed, to pay a visit to the famous Jamaica Inn, renowned smugglers’ haunt and the subject of the Daphne du Maurier novel and Hitchcock movie. Explore the ‘Smuggler’s Museum’ with its 300 year old artefacts, (small fee payable locally), before we visit St Breward, another filming location for ‘Nampara’ in the TV series.
Today you will also visit the bustling fishing village of Padstow, where there will be time to enjoy the harbour, shops and perhaps a spot of lunch. We include a visit to Porthcothan Beach, recognisable as ‘Nampara Cove’, before returning to our hotel late this afternoon.
Day 4 – after breakfast we commence our journey home arriving back later on.
