Day 1
We start with a local coach departure for our journey into Oxfordshire, travelling via the pretty Cotswold Villages of Stow on the Wold, Bourton on the Water and Burford before heading to the Oxfordshire village of Bampton used for much of the outdoor filming of ‘Downton Abbey’. From here we make our way to our overnight hotel which will be situated in the south west or Swindon area. All rooms have private facilities. Dinner is included tonight.
Day 2
After breakfast we travel to Newbury and Highclere Castle as featured in ITV’s period drama ‘Downton Abbey’. The castle has been home to the Carnarvon family since 1679. It includes a fascinating connection with ancient Egypt as the 5th Earl, with Howard Carter, discovered the tomb of Tutankhamen in the Valley of the Kings in 1922. The castle now houses an exhibition that commemorates this historic event.
After our visit we commence our journey home arriving back later on.
