We start with a local departure via the cross Channel ferry to Belgium and on to Luxembourg. Here we have 4 nights booked on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis at the family run Grand Hotel de Vianden. This is set in the centre of the picturesque town of Vianden. The Peverelli family will make sure you have an enjoyable stay. Hotel features include a lounge, bar and restaurant. All rooms are comfortably furnished and are en suite. Our stay will be on a ‘Turkey and Tinsel’ theme. Various days are treated as Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve etc. Even Santa Claus might appear!
During your stay we have included these great excursions:
- A day in the town of Vianden with its location on the banks of the River Our. Enjoy an included introductory sightseeing tour with a local guide so that you can get your bearings before exploring on your own. A visit to the Mediaeval castle which towers above the old town is a must. It is one of the largest and most beautiful feudal residences of the Romanesque and Gothic periods in Europe. In the afternoon we have included a sightseeing tour – drive north along the Our Valley which forms a natural border with Germany, to the attractive old town of Clervaux
- A day of beautiful scenery. We travel through the picturesque area known as ‘little Switzerland’ to cross the German border for a visit to the old Roman town of Trier. See the famous Porta Nigra – the finest preserved Roman city gate north of the Alps, the cathedral or explore the shops. From Trier we return through Echternach – a picturesque town on the River Sauer, still surrounded by its Mediaeval wall with towers
- A visit to Luxembourg city. This is surrounded by magnificent historic fortifications and is classed as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. On arrival we take you on a brief sightseeing tour by coach, including a visit to the old town area, the ruins of the fortifications, the European centre and the banking district
